The Space began its life in November 2025 as the continuation of a previous set of projects aimed towards imagining and creating a better tomorrow.
The Space began its life in November 2025 as the continuation of a previous set of projects aimed towards imagining and creating a better tomorrow.
In 2024, many of us were brought together to establish a space for creating, socializing, and moving through and past merely 'surviving.' We believe that the bonds forged through struggle, through art, and through music can help us unite to overcome the systemic obstacles that prevent all of us from living in a better world.

In early 2026, we found a building in the Miller neighborhood of Gary, Indiana. The building needed (and still needs) a lot of repairs, but collectively, with friends and neighbors, it's on its way.

The new roof was completed, so we can get to work on the inside of the building. Community work days are scheduled to remove old tile, paint, cooler structures, and electric.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Once the inside of the building is cleared out of old and hazardous material, we can start on the main 3 things needed to officially open:

The old roof leaked.. a lot. The building sat very wet for very long, and that means a lot of the electrical work needs to be fixed or made new. There will also be some electrical work added since the space will be split in half, with our friends at Grand Calumet Bikes as building neighbors :)

The building used to be a laundromat at one point, so some of the plumbing needs to be adjusted to accomodate the new uses of the building. Bathrooms will also be moved into new places in the space, allowing us to have an accessible bathroom. And, just general checks and updates to old systems!

All of these are super important, but friends.. we really want to be able to share an air-conditioned (and heated) space with you. Next year's Region Fest needs AC!
